Seeing God in the Fashion Industry

When most people think about fashion, walking in faith is rarely related.

faith+fashion resurrected collective

Typically shallow attitudes, catwalks, toxicity, comparison and impossible beauty standards immediately come to mind instead.

I want that to change.
I want the sound of the fashion industry to ring anthems of true personal expression, confidence, beauty, freedom, creativity and palatable authenticity. I believe that it can be this way.

I want the fashion industry to serve as a tool in becoming who God made you to be. St. Catherine of Siena always says it best - “Be who God made you to be and you will set the world on fire.”

I want fashion to be a means of setting the world ablaze.

Afterall, the first gift God gave to man was clothing.

“And the LORD God made clothing” - Genesis 3:21

The Lord saw our need, made garments himself, for us.

What if fashion was viewed for what it really can be? It’s not a multitude of “shoulds” or “rules” put upon a person with conditions such as age, skin tone, income, body type, or gender identity. It can be quite the opposite-- a freeing, unconditional tool chest and a chance at the creative expression of yourself.

Believe it or not, fashion can be a gateway to building confidence and glorifying your true God given identity, daily.

When told to “be yourself,” I find that it can be hard to grasp what that really means. However, when beginning at the surface level, your clothing or jewelry, you have the opportunity to let your individuality shine through.

By having the bravery to do so, you open yourself up to let everything else - your dreams, passions and vulnerabilities - shine through too. This is living authentically.

Fashion can be a first step. It grants undeniable permission for confidence and expression.

If you let it, getting dressed in the morning can be a daily celebration of you, instead of an effort to conform or impress others. It’s a chance at confidence, empowerment and the first step in fulfilling the purpose God himself has paved for you. We experience the spiritual through the physical.

When taking ownership of it, fashion can celebrate our heavenly designed individuality.

Imagine a world where everyone seized the opportunity to be who they were created to be. Where everyone had the bravery to communicate their true selves - beginning with their clothing.

Check out the this video, interviewing women from all different walks of life, to see what was experienced when they let clothing communicate their true inner self!

This is possible. God gave us clothing and we can reclaim fashion to be used to express our true selves & confidently bear our beautifully made identities!

There is power in claiming this.

Anything God given is intended to grant pure freedom. I encourage you to have the bravery to claim freedom in your clothing, too. You are free to be, in everything, even down to picking an outfit in the morning.

We are called to authenticity and out of comparison!
